Translucent Montana Agate — Yellowstone River, Seven Sisters — The Glow

Sale price$110.00

We woke up in Sydney on the Fifth of July. The night before had been fireworks in the rain. Montanans are not weak. We took that as a good sign and headed toward home. We stopped at the river past the brown public access signs. Those mean we can hound legally. It was a drought year. The water was low. We walked around and found agate after agate. We were looking for clear dendritic, but kept finding red. I made a pile on a little island. I thought — agate is everywhere, I'm not wading back out there. We stopped at six or seven more public access points down river. The agate stayed red. The stone from that first stop — Seven Sisters, just outside Sydney — made it home in my pocket. Yellowstone River, Seven Sisters Story Day 7 was the last hounding day. July 5th. Seven Sisters, outside Sydney Montana. The Yellowstone was different. Good cobble, low water, agate everywhere. We had nine hours on the bar before the eleven hour nonstop drive home. We were too picky to stop for anything less than what we came for. That pickiness has a name now.
