Picture Jasper Cabochon — Spokane River/Stateline — The Creek Find
Pulled from the Spokane River near the Idaho state line — one of the spots where Rufus used to wade into the cooling pools on hot days. Picture jasper usually runs landscape patterns. This one went geometric. Warm cream and gold, rust-orange blocks, grey healed fractures cutting through it like a hand-drawn map.
It went through the Frankenstein Cabber at 3,450 RPMs. We hand-polished it. Then we opened a brown bag of 13 random nickel zinc backs we'd bought for $30 and tried every one. The chevron-stamped back fit like it was destiny. We looked at each other and that was that. Read the Nickel Back Collection →
