Thunder Agate — Irv's Rock & Jewelry — The Thunder Agate Heart
We bought this thunderegg at Irv's Rock and Jewelry, The Shopped Rock → just down the road. One of the first stones we ever bought. We had it cut in half right there in the shop. Then we held onto it for a few years. The Shopped Rock Collection →
When I finally put it on the wheel, this was my first attempt at a heart shape. I ground it down and the pink rings appeared while I was working it — right in the center of the right lobe. We didn't put them there. The stone had them waiting inside.
The grey is translucent. Shine a light into it and you can see the matrix inside — a little landscape of peaks and ridges, like a moonscape. Mountains frozen in agate for millions of years.
I couldn't figure out the cleavage. That's the line down the center of a heart, and I couldn't get it right. So I made a decision. I put a silver plated wrap over it. The wrap became the piece. What I was trying to hide turned into the design.
Not dyed. Not enhanced. One of a kind.
